Saturday, August 5, 7.00 PM: Transcending Borders: The Ramayana Project – this world premiere, presented by the Asia Society Texas Center, this cross- cultural program combines the artistry of Indian, Indonesian, Sri Lankan, and a French-Taiwanese, dancers and musicians, a first for Texas. “Bhoomi” by Kalanidhi dance company, Maryland (Miller Outdoor Theatre), paid tribute to Mother Earth
Outreach program: Workshop for young Kathak students from all over Houston by Durgesh Gangani, India, followed by his performance, “Kathak: Dance of the Royal Courts” at Discovery Green
“Swapna Vijayam” – an adaptation of the Nutcracker Ballet in Kuchipudi dance by Sasikala Penumarthi’s Atlanta based dance company (virtual)
“Triple Frontiers” – an Odissi performance by Malaysia’s Ramli Ibrahim and his Sutra Foundation (virtual)
2020
During the pandemic Samskriti presented 3 virtual programs, and two highlighted local Indian artists in programs titled ‘Houston Proud’ – “Anantham”, a paean to Krishna by Houston’s professional dancers, and “Nrittamalika”, by talented young dancers from different dance schools.
Special program – “Vilasini Natyam”, a little known dance of Temple Dancers (Devadasis), by Poorvadhanasree, India.

“Bollywood Blast” (Miller Outdoor Theatre) featuring California’s award winning professional pan American dance ensemble, Karmagraphy,
“A Million Sitas:(MATCH) – a solo dance theater presentation by Anita Ratnam (India)
“Incredible India: Dance, Language of the Soul” with artists from India, Sri Lanka and Colombia (Miller Outdoor Theatre)
“Ganga to Kaveri; Linking the Sacred Rivers” (MATCH) with four different dance forms performed by dancers from India, California, North Dakota, Oregon and Texas

“Antaram”, an unusual collage of different Indian classical dance forms featured highly reputed artists from India
“Bollywood Bandwagon”, created by Arzan Gonda and her Rhythm India Dance Company, proved that Houston’s got talent
“Incredible India: Cultural Connections”, at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, bridged the artistic divide between India and West by juxtaposing the art forms of the two on one stage
